Bell Business Markets provides a vast array of communications solutions for small, medium, and large organizations. These include managed data and network solutions, cloud computing, conferencing, Web, security solutions and integrated information and communications technology (ICT) services.

 

The complex deal process is a cross functional team engagement including Sales, Product, Network, Field Services, IT, Finance, Operations,  Risk Management, Legal and other groups as required.  The scope of engagement includes customer interaction, solution architecture, pricing and financial structuring, contract negotiation and planning of day 1&2 provisioning, implementation, customer support, reporting and billing. The Deal Manager role requires a high level of commitment and excellence in several key areas:

 

Governance:

  • Ensure due diligence is performed on all deal related documentation (solution, proposal, pricing, terms and conditions) in accordance with the deal process.
  • Ensure all solution reviews (Solution Review Council (SRC), Customer Solution Adaptation Process (CSAP), etc.) are performed by the accountable organizations.
  • Ensure all major stakeholders have completed the gate governance call documents and approval process including the Investment Review Council.
  • When required, facilitate the completion of the Executive Investment Review Council presentation material reviewed by senior management.
  • Ensure adherence to the BBM Policy of Authorizations and Contract Term guidelines.
  • Gather and action opinions from internal stakeholders for the purpose of completing Sarbanes Oxley check lists.

 

Deal Enablement:

  • Lead the development of the work-back plan and ensure all major stakeholders have aligned and execute to the work-back plan.
  • Work with the team to plan and schedule key activities to be performed within the scope of the deal.
  • Report on progress to date, forecasted completion of deal related activities, highlight upcoming milestones and collaborate with the deal team to update the work back plan as required.
  • Escalate issues requiring resolution that pose a potential risk to deal timelines.
  • Engage and consult with the full deal team throughout the deal process including solution design, pricing strategy, delivery & operations and contract negotiations.
  • Ensures all functional teams are aligned to the deal strategy and communicate, resolve and escalate issues as required.
  • Ensure business rigor is applied throughout the development process and that the deal strategy aligns to overall Bell Business Markets objectives.
  • Monitor and assist the deal team with the fulfillment of the Customer Solution Adaptation Process (CSAP).
  • Collaborate with the deal team to complete the transfer of solution and contract related documentation to the Delivery organization to ensure all deals signed are successfully handed off to Bell’s Project Management organization for implementation.
  • Ensure executives are kept up to date on deal progress and provide guidance and support as required.
  • Be prepared to present or answer questions where required to executive leadership team, attend (Executive) Investment Review Council meetings.
  • Support Deal team in contract interpretation (in collaboration with Sales, the Legal department and/or the Contract Negotiators).
  • Provides feedback and recommendations to Product Management and Marketing regarding the evolution of their portfolios.

 

Risk Management

  • Ensure all deal risks, including solution, delivery, operations, financials and terms & conditions are properly assessed and documented.  Provide an assessment of the overall risk at the deal level to enable executive decision making.
  • Challenge the risks, understand the probability and facilitate the provision of  options to mitigate.
  • Challenge all functional teams to improve costing (internal and external) and margins for custom solutions.
  • Review business case data for accuracy and completeness for approval.
  • Support the product team and assist in arranging the completion of partnership agreements to accommodate the use of 3rd party product and services required by the solution.
  • Ensure Contract negotiation team is given appropriate negotiation parameters and that such parameters are appropriately approved. Secure alignment from the various stakeholders on the validity of the contents of the draft contracts and coordinate iterative internal contract draft reviews during negotiation.
  • Preferred Qualifications & Competencies.

 

The Deal Manager must possess:

  • Project management experience with the proven ability to plan, manage, track and report on multiple projects while maintaining priorities and quality of work.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and manage the work performed by cross-functional team members working within a matrix organization.
  • Strong facilitation skills and demonstrated ability to work with Sales, Product Management, Delivery, Operations and other subject matter experts.
  • Experience identifying, quantifying and mitigating risk related to project delivery timelines, operational, technical and financial risks.
  • Ability to escalate issues to management and senior management requiring immediate resolution.
  • Experience in dealing with large Enterprise clients and complex deals.
  • General understanding of the Canadian telecommunications and Information Communications and Technology industry including customers, products, services and competition.
  • Strong communication skills, spoken and written.
  • Strong business and financial acumen.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for problem-solving and decision making.
