Overnight News Writer, Full-time

Bell Media Vancouver

             

Location: Vancouver, BC

Salary: Compensation commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Schedule: Overnights M-F. Overtime as required.

              

Responsibilities:             

  • Contribute to CTV News by writing scripts for on-camera, voice over and intros to reports, making best use of writing in combination with visual elements to communicate.
  • Supervise editing of videotapes for reports and voice over packages.
  • Share accountability for presenting end product that is consistent with highest professional journalistic standards.
  • Manage breaking news and get it to air
  • Choose material from feed sources making it as relevant as possible for our audience, and to the producer’s satisfaction.
  • Duties may include edit ramming, training, prompting, research, story producing & rewrites.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:  

  • Excellent knowledge of local, national, international news and current affairs
  • Experience in broadcast writing
  • Proven ability to prioritize and meet deadlines of several simultaneous duties, while maintaining focus and composure
  • Proven ability to marry picture and sound
  • Excellent communication skills–both oral and written
  • Ability to work in a team, and be self motivated
  • Familiar with social media and its use within news
  • Good computer skills
  • Broadcast or Journalism degree
  • Ability to work in standard office environment that may be hectic and stressful due to editorial and time constraints.
