Bell Business Markets provides a vast array of communications solutions for small, medium, and large organizations. These include managed data and network solutions, cloud computing, conferencing, Web, security solutions and integrated information and communications technology (ICT) services.
Bell Canada is looking for an experienced Interaction Designer and Usability Expert to lead our national Digital Business Solutions team. This professional will be responsible for leading a team of user experience consultants, artistic directors, graphic designers, and business analysts in Toronto and Montreal. The team provides Analysis & Design consulting services to clients across Canada, and services offered include end user research (interviews, online surveys, card sorting, persona creation), design (interaction design, information architecture design, creative design), validation (in-lab usability testing with eye tracking, online usability testing), and business strategy/analysis (comparative benchmarking, requirements gathering and documentation, roadmapping, etc.).
Incumbents typically have a Master's degree (or equivalent in experience) with an emphasis on human factors/ergonomics, human-computer interaction, cognitive psychology and/or usability engineering.
Key responsibilities
- Take a leadership role in delivering key projects – this position has a target utilization rate of 50% billable time and the professional will be responsible for taking the lead on larger projects and delegating work to the team as he/she sees fit
- Own presales activities for the team; including client presentations, estimating level of effort, and writing proposals describing the recommended scope
- Collaborate with our sales representatives on business development, potentially including client meetings, demonstrations, and events
- Work closely with business stakeholders, project managers, business analysts, graphic designers, and developers
- Facilitate information gathering meetings and interviews with clients, knowledge workers, subject matter experts, and end-users
- Conduct end user research using interviews and/or online surveys to inform the creation of end user profiles, end user tasks, and environment profiles
- Design workflows and navigation systems as diagrams or flowcharts
- Design page layouts and elements as annotated wireframes that detail the design specification for both web and mobile solutions
- Create interactive prototypes to illustrate the emerging design, and for use during usability testing
- Conduct usability tests, including creation of recruiting guide, test plan, moderation of sessions, analysis of results, and presentation of findings and recommendations
- Use appropriate tools to prepare well-written and quality deliverable documents
- Provide input to Business Requirements Document (BRD) and Vision Document as necessary
Key skills
- Leadership skills – the team comprises 6 – 12 employees in Toronto and Montreal
- Business development skills – 25-50% of the role is in presales (responding to RFPs, pitching clients, creating proposals, costing out complex user-centered design projects, etc)
- A passion for great design and how it impacts user experience, conversion rates, loyalty, and consumer satisfaction
- 5+ years of experience in user-centered design methodology
- Excellent understanding of interaction design for mobile and responsive web
- Smart, fun, driven, and respectful
- Must be comfortable in a client-facing role
- Strong interest in answering business needs while being challenged by the limitations and constraints imposed by each project – branding, graphic standards, business orientation, budgets, backend systems limitations and business models
- Ability to execute usability tests: create test plans, run both online and in-person sessions, analyse the data, and create a findings presentation
- Ability to present and clearly explain project deliverables
- Ability to prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks in a fast-paced atmosphere
- Demonstrate strong communication skills in order to nurture a business relationships with clients
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Outstanding analytical skills
- Demonstrated success in varied usability projects (including interaction design, end user research, and usability testing)
- Demonstrate extended experience with a variety of research techniques, including card sorting, interviewing, online surveys, eye tracking, etc.
- Strong interpersonal and presentation skills

- Bilingual is an asset
- Experience using Axure to create wireframes and semi-interactive prototypes
- Experience creating accessible designs, and running accessibility audits (WCAG 2.0 AA)
- Experience designing mobile websites and/or app
