Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform cable fault analysis; fault locate and repair overhead and underground cables (copper, fibre optic); trouble shoot and repair defective cable pairs using different testing apparatus including the 65 DSP; provide maintenance of splice closures mounted on poles and to overhead cables, as well as markers; analyze, isolate and perform repairs on pressure problems; organize work and travel fficiently based on priorities established; prepare work reports related to the activities and hours worked and/or the material used; verify the network's reliability, handle potential issues and direct them to the appropriate person; inspect vehicles and tools for signs of damage and deterioration; willing to travel outside the province and be able to respond to emergencies; represent the company in a professional manner during direct contact with customers; follow safe, responsible, and defensive driving techniques when operating the company vehicle.
Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
College diploma in electronics - telecommunications or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training; must hold or be able to obtain a valid BC922 driving permit; able to read plans and specifications for new construction and renovation of pole lines, cables and cable splicing (copper, FO); identify the characteristics of copper and FO cables, including techniques for handling cable splicing and rearrangement; knowledge of different testing apparatus for testing reports on cable problems; knowledge of cable pressurization techniques; knowledge of workplace safety standards on lines connected with HQ; able to identify colour-coded wires; able to operate high-tech tools; able to operate small tools; able to work in adverse weather conditions (e.g. insects, direct sun, rain, snow, cold, etc.); able to work independently without supervision and in sometimes remote areas; able to climb and work aloft on ladders and poles using spurs; able to kneel and bend, and work in confined spaces.
Working Conditions:
Work shifts are allocated based on a 24-hour schedule, 7 days a week; must be available to work weekends and holidays; able to work overtime during peak periods, often at short notice. The number hours worked per week may vary depending on workload and demand.
