The Infrastructure Planning team provides engineering expertise for construction projects and support for operational activities at Bell’s telecom, media and data center production environments across all business units. The team works to identify and scope projects, analyze and reduce risk, reduce cost, review design drawings, support project management activities, maintain and create design guidelines, and oversee commissioning activities.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Act as an expert in the technical management of electricity infrastructure and the establishment of corporate policies
- Reviews internal client requirements or current field realities to provide a project definitions in order to meet growth targets and or minimize operational risks
- Provides technical support for Project Management for complex installations and electrical infrastructure activities
- Assist in defining engineering standards of the company, in order to ensure the reliability of the telecommunications network or other critical facilities and meet the needs of growth
- Define the implementation of design guidelines and / or integrated solutions with our partners (suppliers and consulting engineering firms)
- Assist in the review of specific methods of procedures related to the achievement of high risk work.
- Identify risks and good operational practices
- Assist in the commissioning of critical equipment supporting production systems
- Working with equipment manufacturers, contractors and engineering consultants, validate the performance and proper functioning of equipment and critical systems delivered.
Qualifications and skills requirement:
- University degree in Electrical Engineering and registered as Professional Engineer or working toward accreditation
- College degree in electrical engineering technology with C.Tech accreditation may be considered
- 2-5 years experience in the design or management of electricity infrastructure within critical buildings.
- Must have a valid Class “G” Drivers License
- Knowledge and experience in telecommunication equipment / data center / mission critical environments
- Proven problem solving and data analysis abilities
- Operates with a high degree of autonomy. Investigates ‘out of the box’ ideas and suggests new opportunities for technical solutions
- Takes personal responsibility for projects and assignments and takes initiative to improve the status quo.
- Interest in continual learning
- Strong communication skills such as technical writing, timeliness in response, active listening, and presentation abilities
- Good knowledge of concepts specific to mission-critical applications
- Good knowledge of applicable codes in the jurisdiction such as OESC, CSA Z462, CSA 282, OBC, environmental legislation etc.
- Dynamic and be able to work in a team environment. Ability to encourage teamwork is a strong asset.
- Although this position is not client facing, strong relationship building skills are important for dealing with internal clients.
- Available to travel occasionally, mostly within the province.
Can be considered an asset:
- Experience ‘on site’. Technical troubleshooting abilities a major asset.
- Knowledge of power systems such as DC / UPS / Generators / electrical distribution.
- Knowledge of Uptime Institute Tier Classification
- Experience in commissioning of critical equipment
- Understanding of economic realities such as operational cost, payback anaylsis.
- Multidisciplinary knowledge (fire alarm systems, mechanical systems, etc.)
- Bilingual an asset
