Name and description of the hiring department:
 

The IP Network Operations Center (INOC) is responsible for 7X24 surveillance and maintenance of Bell Canada’s MPLS Core.  The Core accountability includes Internet, IPVPN, as well as many ISN type services.

 

The network is primarily built with Cisco, Juniper and ALU Network components.

 

The key accountability for the INOC is to ensure that we action alarming and react to all network events before our customers are aware there is an issue.  Ensuring we are responding to alarms, we are able to liaison with other internal groups to ensure they are aware of a service affecting conditions and that we are active in pursuing root cause and providing closure to such events.

 

The INOC is also accountable for network changes on the IPCore networks where network changes coordination and implementations are integral part of our success.

 

The INOC is in close contact with the Broadband NOC (BBNOC) and the Wireline Video Operations Center (WVOC).  All teams work closely together under National Network Operations to provide seamless surveillance and maintenance on the Core, Access and Video networks from end to end.


Job Duties / Accountabilities:
 

As part of his duties, the INOC technician will ensure the overall management of the network 7x24.

 

On a daily basis, the INOC technician will be called upon to:

 

  • Be on site to perform work duties
  • Action all reports of a service impact to full resolution
  • Monitor the network using surveillance tools to prevent failures and respond promptly to minimize customer impact
  • Document all actions taken in the trouble ticket logs precisely
  • Analytical thinking and problem solving abilities
  • Attended bridges and engage the appropriate support team(s) for critical impacts and long duration outages
  • Manage service escalations from both internal and external teams
  • Populate ongoing spreadsheets and progress reports for projects
  • Refer any roadblocks to management for correction
  • Utilize career zone to build and direct career path
  • Working within a team and ability to demonstrate team spirit


Essential Qualifications / Competencies:
 

  • The ideal candidate for this position must have a Degree/Diploma in electronics option “telecom” or equivalent
  • Cisco CCNA certification
  • Team player focused on the end customer satisfaction
  • Able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Able to work independently with minimum supervision; possess strong organizational skills
  • Able to multi-task and manage multiple issues at the same time
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office suite of products

Preferred Qualifications / Competencies:
 

  • Basic knowledge of Bell Canada network, combined with the ability to make decisions quickly and to manage risk would be an asset
  • Consideration could be given to applicants with an in-depth technical knowledge of Bell’s IP network or any Cisco, Juniper or Alcatel-Lucent certifications or both
  • Cisco CCNP certification

  • Bilingual (English-French)

  • Juniper JNCIA level certification

  • Alcatel-Lucent (ALU) certification


Working Conditions:

 

  • The IP Network Operations Center is a 7x24 environment.  The INOC technician will be required to work shift work and availability of shift depends on seniority within the team.
  • The INOC is located within a leading edge surveillance center located at 76 Adelaide Street West in downtown Toronto.
  • The INOC technician will be required to work closely with the BBNOC, xDSL Test Centre and WVOC, as well as many other internal customer helpdesks and external customers.
