Reporting to the Manager – Product Realization Network the candidate will be a part of the Products Realization Network team, primarily responsible for the development, testing, and qualification of new consumer, M2M and SIM devices for Bell Mobility and the introduction of new wireless technologies into these products.

 

Job Duties/Accountabilities:

 

  • Investigate and research new wireless technologies or enablers that are trending or evolving towards inclusion into next generation products, working closely with internal and external technical and business partners to develop trial plans and lead first introduction initiatives
  • Evaluate and qualify new wireless products (smartphone, M2M, USIM) to meet the requirements of the business, focusing on core aspects of network interworking technologies/services within the devices
  • Troubleshoot and identify product issues, assisting vendors in driving resolution during feature development or product qualification cycles while meeting defined timelines
  • Apply your expertise in UMTS and LTE signaling call flows to identify unexpected behavior in devices and effectively troubleshoot using drive test and mobile logging tools to establish root causes
  • Develop feature specifications and test cases for execution by peers and product manufacturers. Create or find new ways of automating and improving the quality of test cases to improve efficiency and time to market
  • Provide support to members of Bell Wireless Technology Products, other internal Bell teams and device vendors to ensure product issues and impacts are well understood to maximize product quality and to meet overall business needs in terms of time to market
  • Efficiently manage time while assigned to multiple concurrent projects, effectively prioritizing and adapting in a fast-paced challenging environment

 

Critical Qualifications:

 

  • B.Eng or B.Sc in Electrical, Electronics or Data Systems Engineering
  • P.Eng. certification or eligible for registration with the Professional Engineers of Ontario
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a wireless network or device design/development role
  • Highly functional technical knowledge (including industry standards) and significant experience with 2G, 3G, and/or 4G technologies (UMTS, LTE)
  • Able to analyze UMTS/LTE Layer 3 messaging (using mobile logging tools such as QXDM)
  • Strong knowledge of IP networking protocols and able to analyze PPP and higher layer protocols such as SIP (using Wireshark or similar tools)
  • Ability to quickly learn different vendor technologies and tools
  • Aptitude and interest in pursuing a detailed understanding of underlying functional mechanisms
  • Able to focus on multiple tasks concurrently with strong commitment to execution
  • Committed team player with proven leadership qualities, able to communicate well in a cross-functional team and develop effective cooperative working relationships
  • Excellent communication skills with a strong command of the English language – both written and oral
  • Valid driver’s license

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience in the design, optimization, and/or troubleshooting of wireless networks (GSM, CDMA, UMTS, LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth)
  • Working experience with UMTS and LTE equipment from major network infrastructure RAN vendors, particularly knowledge of protocol related configuration and parameters
  • Familiarity with these technologies: VoLTE, RCS, Bluetooth, WiFi, IPv6, OMA-CP/DM, E911, location methods (AGPS, Assisted AGPS, CI-RTT)
  • Working experience in the vertical data device/M2M space
  • Working experience with major USIM vendors on USIM product configuration and testing
  • Strong familiarity with Qualcomm chipsets and wireless module/device architecture.  Familiarity with STE and Intel chipsets would also be an asset
  • Familiar with common wireless device operating systems (Blackberry, Windows Mobile, Android, IOS)
  • Computer programming experience
