The Network Specialist will be working within Bell Canada’s DNSS (Data Network Services & Support). Our mission statement is to provide operational excellence and unparalleled quality of service in the management and servicing of our customers, through strategic investment in our people processes and technology.

 

The role shall require the Support manager to be able to evaluate the existing network for any threats or weaknesses related to network performance and make suggestions to the Application Owners and Engineering Design advisors for improvements.  The individual must have the ability to evaluate network performance data and to work with various performance tools as required during the Implementation or Service recovery processes.

 

The position of Network Specialist provides 3rd line technical, engineering and design support for Bell Canada’s Managed Services. The Network Specialist works closely with 1st/2nd Line support teams, IS/IT Project, CDS, CSE and Architecture teams. We are looking for individuals who possess a combination of technical and excellent customer service skills to join our team.  The individual will be supporting network connectivity for critical Bell Canada applications that are utilized by approx 60,000 Bell Canada resources to support our paying customers.

 

Job Duties/Accountabilities:

 

  • Assisting technicians with customer trouble resolution and provisioning activity. This may include real time direction ranging from one on one coaching, develop job aids and provide training sessions to actively working on troubles using various test equipment.  Lead and manage crisis situation, as assigned, which have been extended or escalated by the customer.
  • Work with other teams within and outside Bell to operationalize new technologies and products. This involves providing direction to project teams as SME responsible for provisioning and maintaining the end solution. Direction will include providing recommendations for efficient processes, testing the solution in a lab environment, documentation, training the technicians and engaging the vendor as required.
  • Testing new software prior to deployment in the network and participating in the development of MOPs for network activities.
  • As the SME, you will be called upon by application sponsors to explain outages, describe services and work on escalated troubles.
  • Provide technical leadership to clients and internal support teams in assessing all aspects of network solution implementation needs, such as addressing, routing protocols, bandwidth, performance, security, availability, capacity, optimization and operational manageability
  • Service Assurance & Service Provisioning problem escalation
  • Design Consultation (assist CSE’s, technology)
  • Assist with final design/functionality of new service introductions
  • Project Work –provide expertise for tools and process development
  • Ability to perform analysis and problem determination
  • To respond quickly to all pages and escalations from NOC and Help desks needing our assistance in troubleshooting customer network problems
  • Driving Continuous Improvement opportunities to improve Operational cost structure while maintaining or improving customer service (streamline process, automation, skill set training , documentation ….
  • Assess impacts of new service/technology initiatives/growth within the DNSS with respect to Network support, training and tool requirements.
  • Develop tools (scripts/programs) for automating routine activities
  • To engage Bell’s external provider support where needed. Ex- Cisco, Aruba, Radware, etc
  • To make recommendations based on the collection of the network statistics for improvements in the existing network.
  • Executive summary reports and analysis of network performance
  • Post Mortem investigation/analysis
  • On call rotational pager

 

Essential Competencies/Skills:

 

  • Able to assist with the design and implementation of network solutions encompassing CISCO, Aruba and Radware devices
  • Able to manage complex high paced, stressful situations, involving many partners and Outsourcing support personnel. Quickly access a situation and bring key resources to action trouble shoot and resolve the crisis.
  • Senior, or working knowledge of Security Technologies such as Firewalls, Security event collectors, IPS’ and Firewall Management Systems
  • In depth knowledge and hands-on experience in implementing routing and switching technologies and protocols (e.g. EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, Spanning Tree), and networking protocols (particularly IP, as well as Wireless technologies and legacy protocols such as SNA.
  • In depth experience in network planning and management of network infrastructures.
  • Strong technical leadership, teamwork, negotiating and technical decision-making skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Minimum 3 year expert working knowledge IP (WAN/LAN) infrastructures consisting of Cisco, Radware, Alteon, Juniper, Aruba Wireless, Checkpoint (Routing, Switching, Load Balancers, Firewalls and DNS).
  • Minimum 3 year expert working knowledge of Netscout nGenius tool, Sniffer A3 and Wireshark  as the primary network tools for monitoring and troubleshooting network and application performance.
  • Extensive knowledge of the OSI model, TCP/IP protocol stack, network protocols such as DNS, DHCP, FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, VOIP, etc
  • Extensive knowledge of Routing Protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP …..)
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting Cisco (IOS and IOS-XR) and Juniper (JunOS) routers/switches.
  • Knowledge of SNMP, DNS/DHCP, Load Balancers (F5, Alteon, Radware)  and Firewall (juniper , checkpoint and Palo Alto.
  • Sound understanding of:
  • IP/MPLS technologies.
  • Routing and switching.
  • QoS.
  • Internetworking hardware (Cisco, Juniper, etc.)
  • SLB/GSLB
  • A minimum 2 years experience in supporting of Network and Security infrastructures.
  • Cisco Certified Networking Associate CCNA,  CCNP and CCIE  certifications preferable.
  • Asset Wireshark certification preferable
  • Flexibility: Works effectively with varying environments, situations, tasks, responsibilities and people. Off hours work required based on project loads.
  • Is self disciplined and takes initiative to getting task done.
  • Works well under time constraints/pressure  

 

Working Conditions:

 

  • Work start and finish times are flexible.
  • Overtime may be required in order to meet deadlines and Service Assurance SLA’s.
  • Rotational On Call
  • Teleworking not an option
