Hours of Work: 24 hours per week. Overtime as required based on operational needs. Will include working shift work including evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to CTV News programs by writing news stories, updating the website, voice over and intros to reports
- Monitor news feeds for appropriate video and news stories to be used in newscasts
- Search computer files and videotapes for footage
- Line up the news stories for the newscasts or splits, ensure all information is listed on scripts for anchors and production, and distribute copies
- Work with editors to determine what can be edited out or modified in a story when necessary
- May act as a back-up producer or assignment editor for all newscasts
- Must be able to gather, write and voice news reports
- Update News stories on the CTV website
- Other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Extensive experience as a news broadcast writer
- Broad News media experience and assignment desk experience preferred
- Post Secondary education in Journalism /Broadcasting
- In-depth knowledge of local (KW region), national and international news and current affairs
- Proven ability to prioritize and meet deadlines of several simultaneous duties, while maintaining focus and composure
- Proven ability to marry picture and sound
- Excellent communication skills- both oral and written
- Ability to work in a team and be self motivated
- Practical working knowledge of iNews and Microsoft office systems
- Good understanding of journalistic ethics is essential
Bilingualism is an asset (English and French)
