Web journalist - CTV Montreal (Montreal, QC, CA)

This is a permanent part time position - 2 days/week (16 hours), including nights and weekends. Overtime as required

 

Responsibilities:
 
• Research and write news and breaking news for montreal.ctvnews.ca and other websites and mobile applications

• Pitch and deliver insightful analysis and background stories

• Work with others to develop interactive and explanatory features, including infographics and other data journalism

• Appear on-air as required to deliver news and other content

• Monitor and publish wires, with eye to SEO, keywords and social sharing

• Manage multiple social media streams for news and send news alerts to mobile apps

• Work closely with news producers to extend general broadcast content to website and vice versa

• Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

• Degree in Journalism and at least three years’ experience working in an online newsroom

• Experience at major news-oriented website

• Excellent knowledge of local news and current affairs, including municipal and provincial politics

• Strong computer skills and familiarity with web Content Management Systems

• Demonstrated ability to originate coverage on developing stories including popular trends and features

• Ability to incorporate embeddable media including social posts seamlessly into copy

• Experience or proven understanding of emerging mobile news standards

• Excellent writing and editing skills, plus advanced knowledge of CP Style Guide

• Excellent communication skills (writing, phone, interoffice); highly organized and self-motivated

• Able to handle multiple tasks and maintain creativity in a high-pressure, deadline oriented environment
