The role
Leading and working with a matrix team of SME’s, the Service Development Manager will take the Product Lifecycle Manager’s conceptual product idea and translate it into a deliverable service opportunity which would include the technical architecture, IT design and conceptual solution and delivery. Under the direction of the Senior Manager - Unified Communications Product Management, Bell Business Markets, the Service Development Manager will:
Key responsibilities
- Be the business voice and Product Lifecycle Manager’s representative during the project exploration, analysis & design and development phases of a given project
- Own the project together with the Project Manager until launched and transitioned back to Lifecycle Manager
- Serve as a focal point for all aspects of the project’s lifecycle management from the planning phase to the project closure phase
- Support leading Business Analysts in the creation and execution of a detailed product business requirements and delivery plan defining the product attributes and delivery mechanisms
- Own the product definition and delivery including technical and IT implementation
- Manage change requests and negotiate impacts to schedules and/or costs
- Work with product partners to ensure timely delivery of all products and sales opportunities
- Support the Take To Market (TTM) and Marketing Communications (MarCom) teams in the design of regional and national marketing initiatives
- Review field trial plans, risk assessments, and test results
- Provide detailed understanding and tracking of product performance
- Provide customer, industry and professional insight on product roadmaps, including but not limited to vendor technologies used, features, service experience and alternatives
- Define client needs and develop winning strategies with a compelling value proposition in collaboration with Product Lifecycle Manager
- Set product direction based on market trends and customer requirements
- Stay abreast of industry trends, key players in industries, as well as demands for each product category
Critical Competencies
- Good understanding of Unified Communications, including the technology used, solution providers, and competition both in Canada and globally.
- Highly-organized individual, detail oriented and process-oriented.
- Ability to confidently give face-to-face and remote presentations to diverse audiences ranging from executives to new employees.
- Ability to clearly formulate and document business requirements and be the business voice on the project.
- Ability to grasp the technical and development challenges of the teams involved, including consultations with SMEs.
- Ability to challenge proposed solutions in order to build a most effective service.
- Be proficient in business case creation, including ability to negotiate costs.
- Have Vendor Management knowledge, including assistance during contract negotiations.
- Understand technologies utilized in the services being developed.
- Understand the conceptual solution and provide constructive feedback for improvements, based on the knowledge of the underlining systems.
- Effectively communicate with the Product Lifecycle Managers via regular updates and consultations, as needed.
- Ensure that a service meets Bell standards including client interfaces.
- Work closely with the PM in order to overcome roadblocks that the team might be facing.
- Solid planning and presentation skills in order to effectively manage IPC Gates for the project.
- Ability to work with the Take to market team including development and presentation of the developed material.
- Detail and results oriented, resolute in pursuing unresolved issues.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Ability to work in an environment where priorities change frequently.
- Ability to learn fast the principles of the underlying systems/technology utilized in the service including MPLS, VoIP, QoS, TCPIP, Ethernet, SIP etc., as well as fully understand the principles of Cloud Computing, Hosted and Managed services.

Education& Experience
- Must have experience working with and leading multi discipline project teams
- Must have 5+ years of experience in a related business / engineering field
- Knowledge of the Project Management Institute’s approach to Project Management
- University degree in a related field
- Knowledge of ITIL methodology and principles
- PMP Designation or equivalent is required
- Product Management or Marketing experience would be an asset
- Relevant IT or telecom sector experience
