Cable splicer/Repair technician (NorthernTel) (North Bay, ON, CA)

Class I – Cable splicer/Repair technician
The Cable Repair Technician is required to splice and maintain copper and fibre optic cable facilities, maintain cable pressurization systems and locate underground cables.  The incumbent will be required to open and close cable sheaths in accordance with company practices, to splice pairs in copper or fibre optic cables. This work will be done in aerial, underground or inside buildings. He/she will be required to complete planned preventative maintenance programs.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
• Community College diploma in electronics or telecommunications; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• In lieu of the Community College diploma, relevant experience with the splicing, troubleshooting and maintenance of both copper and fibre optic cables. Must have good exposure to both fusion and mechanical splicing techniques as it relates to fibre.
• Valid Class G driver's license is essential.
• Normal colour vision
 
SKILLS
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
• Customer contact skills
• Excellent computer skills
• Troubleshoot analogue and digital circuits
 
ABILITIES
• To be able to work both inside and outside, under all types of weather conditions, throughout the year.
• Ability to travel throughout the NTL system and on occasion, outside the NTL territory.
• To climb poles and work aloft.
• To lift and carry heavy tools and equipment such as ladders.
• To work underground in places such as manholes.
• Demonstrated ability to learn, grasp and apply new technology.
• To work different shifts and to work overtime as required, on short notice, to meet customer commitments.
• Although part of a team, ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
• Successfully complete all required training.

 

Bilingualism is an asset (English and French)
