The TV & Wireline Network Operations Team is seeking a dynamic and innovative professional in the area of Broadcast Operations to join our team of trained network experts committed to delivering Canada’s best content and services to our customers through next-generation services for TV (Fibe TV, as well as the introduction of new technologies and products across Bell’s coast-to-coast network.  We build and deliver stunning picture quality and reliable service for all of Bell’s video services and manage a fleet of Bell’s satellites with 24 hour support.  Bell has the best network because we have the best people on our team. And with you, Bell just got better!

 

As an Operator you will be a member of the Operations Department supported by the Manager of Operations.  This position is responsible for providing 24/7 operations support at our Scarsdale broadcast centre.


Job Duties / Accountabilities:

 

  • Maintaining on-air quality:  Analyzing video and audio signals and acting as a liaison with service providers, National Operation centers and Uplinks to maintain and restore signals to their correct Broadcast levels.
  • Performing seamless and accurate program substitutions according to log.
  • Proficient in the channel launch/move process.
  • Update and maintain all network contact information on a regular basis.
  • Demonstrated abilities to monitor quality of outgoing signals.
  • Report equipment problems and perform emergency workaround to keep Networks operational.
  • Use analytical thinking to analyze information and use logic to address work-related issues and problems.
  • Must be reliable, responsible, dependable and work well with other team members.
  • Learn and update knowledge on internal “signal paths” and fibre and satellite distribution of our linear broadcast Networks.  Use such information to assist our affiliates and distribution partners in issue resolution.
  • 24/7 rotation shifts including holidays.
  • Informing the call centre of any issues that impact customers.
  • Checking the accuracy of the Program Guide and performing corrections where needed through the “Schedule Navigator”.
  • Perform live system switches to activate Specialty services.
  • Routing fibre and satellite signals/feeds for live transmissions and back-ups.
  • Analyze and document satellite Transponder performance.
  • Create on-air graphics using DEKO and Inscriber CG programs.
  • Fault Escalation / Notification.
  • Understanding of troubleshoot flowchart.
  • Syscon Switches.


Essential Qualifications / Competencies:

 

  • Post Secondary Graduate Diploma or experience in Television – Broadcasting.
  • Proficiency in Windows based Computer Programs.
  • 2-4 years in a broadcast related field, preferably in a master control environment.
  • Knowledge of broadcast centre signal flow.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues, ability to coordinate, re-route or patch to minimize downtime and restore service.
  • Good communication skills and strong technical vocabulary.
  • Prioritize workload and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, learn quickly and adapt to new technology, be able to solve problems quickly and efficiently, be able to meet deadlines.
  • Thorough knowledge of High definition, Digital and Analog Broadcast Technology and their formats.
  • Related knowledge of MPEG-2/MPEG-4.
  • A Master Control Operator must act as a main point of contact within Bell TV and be able to determine all causes of service affecting issues and their immediate resolution using internal and external sources.


Working Conditions:

 

  • Working in a 24/7 environment, the Master Control operator should be technically inclined and have a comprehensive understanding of and ability to operate broadcast equipment in a master control.
