The Information Technology team develops and maintains Bell’s internal systems and applications while also developing integrated technology solutions for customers across all lines of business.
The team manages Bell’s IT Infrastructure and the service availability of over 700 applications, including mission critical billing and service systems. The IT delivery teams drive the IT Work Program with over 60% of IT capital invested in initiatives that support business unit priorities and Bell’s strategic imperatives.
The Information Technology team develops and maintains Bell’s internal systems and applications while also developing integrated technology solutions for customers across all lines of business. The team manages Bell’s IT Infrastructure and the service availability of over 700 applications, including mission critical billing and service systems. The IT delivery teams drive the IT Work Program with over 60% of IT capital invested in initiatives that support business unit priorities and Bell’s strategic imperatives.
Key Responsibilities:
The Solution Architect role within the IT organization is a highly specialized role to support the delivery of Digital Customer Experience initiatives. The Digital Customer Experience Team is responsible for the implementation of web based applications that serve wireless, residential and business markets. Bell.ca, Virginmobile.ca, Solo.ca are key sites within this portfolio. The Solution Architect is involved in every phase of the project, and also in capacity planning, hardware / software upgrades, network requirements / impacts, system specifications & design.

* Work with Software Vendor to ensure that solution meets business requirement and architectural vision
* Guide project team in system architecture, design, development, troubleshooting and selection of tools and technology to delivery project successfully
* Ensure quality of produced code by thorough testing and code-review and that application perform as expected and have maximum availability.
* Provide consulting and direction during Project Initiation phase and support Front Door assessments
* Monitor set performance targets of pages and modules which are delivered as part of the project
* Participate and lead knowledge transfer sessions, capacity analysis, performance trends and establish proper monitoring and hand off to support team
* Work with Enterprise and Application Architecture teams to drive alignment around more pragmatic vs. prescriptive solutions
* Monitor and vet major architectural decisions, changes, and open issues (e.g. data placement, tool/technology product selection, interfaces, new data stores, infrastructure issues)
Required Competencies:
* Bachelor’s level degree in Information technology, Computer science, Software engineering, or Computer engineering, completed by the position start date
* General understanding of IT standards, network concepts (OSI model, basic network principles, etc.), and hardware / hosting platforms
* Good knowledge of software architecture patterns & practices
* Strong analytical, technical writing and problem solving skills
* Proven leadership skills including project examples
* Excellent ability to articulate ideas and articulate technical problems to a non-technical audience
* Autonomous, tolerance to a fast paced / fast changing environment
* Strong team player; ability to facilitate, negotiate and work within a multi-domain team environment
* Quick learning skills; strong desire to learn
Software knowledge:
* Operating System (Unix/Linux/Windows)
* Java/J2EE Application servers (Weblogic, WebSphere, JBoss, etc.)
* Java enterprise application frameworks
* Web Services / SOA, N-Tier Architectures
Development knowledge:
* Java / J2EE - (Preferred)
* XML / SOAP XML / XSLT / XQuery
* C# / .Net
* C / C++
* Database knowledge
* Oracle PL/SQL, SQL
* Microsoft SQL Server
Preferred competencies:
* Experience in a similar environment through co-op terms or summer jobs
* Previous knowledge of the telecommunications industry
* Familiarity with programming languages is highly recommended
