Position: Videojournalist (Part-Time)
Location: Winnipeg, MB
Salary: C.E.P. Local 816M, Group XIII Commensurate with qualifications and experience
Hours of Work: Average 24 hours per week. Varying shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays. Overtime and additional hours as required, especially during peak holiday periods.
Responsibilities:
• Operating an ENG Camera, including lighting and sound equipment for news and sports
• Editing video and sound material on deadline for broadcast
• Generating original story ideas for on air and online presentation
• Developing and maintaining contacts in the community and with news making organizations
• Interviewing story subjects
• Story writing and voicing
• Contributing scripts, video and pictures to the station’s on-line content
• The safe operation of all equipment, and formally reporting any malfunctions of equipment immediately
• Regular weekend and evening shifts
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• A degree or diploma from an accredited post-secondary broadcast or related program
• Previous experience as a videojournalist, preferably in a newsroom setting
• Experience in ENG photography and editing in a newsroom setting
• Demonstrated presentation and video journalism skills
• Strong editorial judgment with a proven ability to use sound and pictures to help tell the story
• Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to work unsupervised and make quick decisions
• Ability to deal with multiple demands and pressures of on-air deadlines
• Understanding of broadcast law
• Demonstrated non-linear editing skills
• Experience on iNews an asset
• Must have and maintain valid documents required for travel to the United States
• Must possess a valid Class 5 or equivalent driver’s licence
