Name and description of the hiring department:

The Field and Network services team in Bell Canada is responsible for delivering services to Voice, SMB and Enterprise market customers.


Job Duties / Accountabilities: 

The Business Technician 1 – Outright Sales is responsible for delivering services to Voice, SMB and Enterprise market customers at the level of installing and repairing PBXs, IP telephony systems and (SERVER) applications for business customers.

 

The successful candidate will implement, upgrade, repair (in the event of an outage) and carry out preventive maintenance for all PBXs and applications used by Bell Canada’s Outright Sales customers (Nortel Norstar, BCM 50, 400, 450, PBX 11C, 51C, CS 1000 and applications Call Pilot, Toshiba, Avaya, CISCO Unified IP communication servers and routers, etc.).

 

To ensure customers are satisfied, the technician will independently coordinate activities surrounding the installation of new products and services, in close collaboration with the Sales teams and in keeping with the team’s mandate. He will ensure adherence to each customer’s maintenance agreement, escalate any event beyond his control to the support teams, perform maintenance and upgrades on operating software and hardware, maintain relations with customers and various groups within Bell Canada, adept at managing large-scale projects and finally manage his time in such a way as to maximize revenues and minimize expenses.

 

The technician may also be assigned to a customer on site and could be asked to work in different type of markets than generally done by a Business technician Outright Sales, ex.: IPVPN, FTTB, I&R Voice/DSL.

 

Assists as lead, and resolves highly complex issues with vendor technical support as required.

 

Essential Qualifications / Competencies:

  • Equivalent work experience on one of the following voice products: CISCO UC series, AVAYA IP Office, AVAYA CS1K.
  • Good understanding of LANs and WANs, security solutions, VPNs, wireless and VOIP networks design principles.
  • Excellent knowledge of the outside plant.
  • Valid IP certification (CCNA, CCNP) or in the certification process or equivalent work experience.
  • Hold a valid driver's licence class G in Ontario.
  • As required to meet customer’s needs, agree to undergo a background security check clearance within 45 days or on request.
  • Ability to climb telephone poles as well as climb ladders and carry them over long distances.
  • Capable of differentiating colored wires (colour code) and working in confined spaces.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Must be meeting all aspects of your current job performance.

Preferred Qualifications / Competencies:

  • College diploma in electronics or telecommunications


Working Conditions:

  • The candidate must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions and may be called upon to work variable schedules according to business needs, to participate in a standby program and to work overtime as needed.
