Name and description of hiring department:

Bell Canada’s Field and Network Services team (Central Office) is responsible for service assurance, as well as for maintaining the utmost availability and reliability of network components (equipment) across all Bell Canada networks in Ontario.  The sector's various teams handle maintenance, assurance and provisioning duties, project coordination and major problems for the following technologies: Outside network’s modules, Transport and IP.

 

Job duties/accountabilities:

The Central Office Technician is responsible for the utmost availability and reliability of network components (COs, Huts, CEVs, WICs, etc.) in Ontario.  The incumbent will handle provisioning, service assurance, maintenance and project coordination duties associated with the following technologies: Transport, IP, Frame and Switching. The successful candidate may also be asked to carry out tasks.
 

Alongside various internal and external parties (NNOC, BBNOC, INOC, PCMC, etc.), the candidate will also be in charge of planning, coordinating and overseeing the advancement of work according to Provincial Change Management Centre rules, and/or projects related to the replacement or maintenance of that equipment in keeping with established practices and procedures. The candidate will also have good communication skills, autonomy, responsibility, reliability and ability to work in a highly complex environment.

 

Critical qualifications/skills:

  • Good practical knowledge of the transport network (levels 0/1/3), broadband and IP.
  • Good knowledge of the Network Modules.
  • Good knowledge of the outside plant.
  • Good knowledge of electricity and telecommunications.
  • Basic understanding of the IP network.
  • Hold a valid Class G driver's license.
  • College/University diploma/degree  in electronics or telecommunications or equivalent work experience.
  • As required to meet customer’s needs, agree to undergo a background security check.
  • Ability to climb ladders and carry them over long distances.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces as required.
  • Capable of differentiating colored wires (color code).
  • Fluent in English.

 

Working conditions:

  • The candidate must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions and may be called upon to work variable schedules according to business needs, to participate in a standby program and to work overtime as needed.
