The Bell Residential Services team is in the business of enabling customers to connect with people, information and entertainment by delivering integrated products and service experience for consumers while enhancing our competitiveness in the marketplace. The team provides customers with Bell Home phone, local and long distance services, Bell Internet, Bell Satellite TV and amazing new technologies such as Bell Fibe TV.

The primary responsibility of the role is the development and ongoing maintenance of the front-end design for Bell Canada online presence. The Specialist, Web Design and Development will lead the web UI development and collaborate with other team members that specialize in user experience, server-side development, content writing, business analysis and graphic design. Interested candidates should have relevant experience in UI design and development, interaction design, visual design, and information architecture.
Responsibilities:
- Own, maintain and evolve the front-end design and development standards for our site by researching, understanding, applying and integrating industry best-practices while respecting Bell Canada corporate brand standards.
- Identify and support ongoing continuous improvement efforts for our websites.
- Work closely with project teams and external vendors to lead and audit ongoing front-end design and development.
- Develop and maintain our library of html, CSS and Javascript assets along with styleguide documentation together with the UX team.
- Develop layout solutions for complex UI components using the latest responsive design techniques.
- Create working prototypes as well as production ready html, CSS and Javascript (with Javascript primarily focused on interactive components, animations and AJAX).
- Assist backend developers with integrating HTML into server-side templates.
- Select, own and maintain the lifecycle of the UI specific 3rd party Javascript libraries used on our websites. This includes deciding when to upgrade, when to find alternatives, when to add additional JS libraries, etc.
- Clearly articulate, prototype, iterate, and implement design ideas rapidly and on time.
- Help to create consistent page (or page component) designs intended for reuse across front-end design projects and within our Content Management System (CMS).
- Create web-optimized, maintainable graphic assets to be used throughout our sites.
- Apply WCAG accessibility requirements when writing HTML and Javascript.
Education/Certifications Required:
- Degree and/or Diploma in Web Design/Graphic Design
- Relevant front end design and development education
Required Skills and Experience:
- Expert with a minimum 4 years web design and development experience with demonstrable portfolio
- Strong knowledge and desire to utilize established and emerging Web standards (W3C)
- Ability to work in a Microsoft Windows based environment
- Ability to manage work on multiple projects simultaneously and work under tight deadlines
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively amongst a diverse team and with stakeholders
- Have a passion for all things digital (web, tablets, mobile, video, social, etc.)
- Candidate should have expert skills in the following areas: HTML 5; CSS3+; Responsive Web Design; JavaScript / jQuery for UI design (including AJAX); CSS Grids / Frameworks / Resets; Web Font Embedding; IE Bugs and Inconsistencies; Cross-Browser / Cross-Platform UI Development; Web optimized graphics creation/editing; UX / Usability; Accessibility (WCAG 2); Webpage Speed / Performance; Progressive Enhancement / Graceful Degradation; Mobile Web Development & Performance.
Optional Skill Set:
- Experience working in a large/enterprise business environment an asset
- Experience and skills in the following areas would be an asset: CMS template design/development; Modernizr; OOCSS / SMACSS; WAI-ARIA (accessibility); “Polyfills” for HTML5/CSS3; SVG; Social media plug-ins/widgets; Canvas API; HTML5 APIs; SEO Information Architecture.
- Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
