Position: Television Anchor/Newsroom Supervisor – CJDC TV

Location: Dawson Creek, BC

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

CJDC-TV has a unique opportunity for someone looking to further their career in the television news field. The Television Anchor is literally the “face” of CJDC-TV and oversees daily organization of story coverage in the Dawson Creek area, liaises with Fort St. John office, as well as dubs the regional and national Television feeds from the CBC, collates stories, prepares and delivers the evening newscasts. The successful candidate will also act as a day-to-day supervisor for the Dawson Creek news team, and work with the News Director to ensure smooth operation and strong communication between the Dawson Creek and Fort St. John newsrooms.

Responsibilities:

With the support of the News Director, you will:

* Ensure news events and stories in the Dawson Creek areas are covered on a daily basis in consultation with the News Director.
* Act in a supervisory role in the Dawson Creek newsroom in the News Director’s absence.
* Provide some coverage of events and edit video and audio for use in both Television and radio newscasts. As well as write scripts for our web sites.
* Collate video, audio, and copy stories from wires, reporters, CBC feeds and other sources.
* Organize and prepare copy, and a “run tape” for the newscast.
* Liaise with Master Control and Television Operations Supervisor on the production of the “boards”, and “news elements” and ensure operators are up to speed on technical requirements for the newscast each day.
* Clean out audio and video archives in preparation for the next day's news run.
* Anchor daily newscast in conjunction with the Sports Reporter/Anchor.
* Attend News Department meetings to provide input on newsroom issues and story coverage.
* Attend station and community events “when needed” to represent the Television station and to make community contacts.
* Order special B-roll and background material for use with locally generated stories.
* Oversee and organize the tape library for use and background research for future stories.
* Provide weekend story coverage when needed.
* Other duties as assigned.

Skill requirements:

* Minimum 1 – 3 years experience in a similar or related position in the industry.
* Degree or Diploma from a recognized Broadcast/Journalism Program or equivalent experience.
* Live TV experience will be considered an asset
* Experience and demonstrated ability to operate ENG camera and editing equipment
* Knowledge of Burli or similar audio editing program.
* Knowledge of Final Cut Pro video editing suite or similar video editing system.
* A valid driver’s license (abstract may be required)
* Strong references
* Managerial or supervisory experience an asset.
* Ability to work and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
* The ability to work as part of a team
* Mature, calm and professional manner
* Strong communication, writing and creativity.
* Able to take instruction with ease; willing to learn
* Represent Bell Media with integrity, respect and mature judgment
