Responsibilities:
- Generating interesting, original, current story ideas and angles that keep Canada AM ahead of the news
- Knowledge of the Parliament Hill news and newsmakers
- Ability to react to breaking news by referencing a strong contact base and research venues like the internet and social media
- Possess strong persuasive skills to get guests to air
- Tweet and post stories on social media
- Ability to validate and assess the editorial value of stories and assignments
- Finding, booking and pre-interviewing the best guest for each story
- Creatively produce a segment including: Graphics, VTR elements, question-flow, demos, location
- Researching and writing comprehensive editorial background briefs that lead to original and cohesive lines of questioning
- Initiate, write and produce VTR field pieces to run on the program
- Field produce any live remote shows or segments
- Monitor and stay abreast of news of the day, as well issues and trends
Qualifications:
- Experience in generating story ideas
- Excellent knowledge of news and current affairs
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Excellent communication skills – oral and written
- Ability to both work well in a team and be self-motivated
- Computer word processing skills
- Minimum 5 years broadcast news experience
- Experience working with an editor to put together stories
