Bell Business Markets provides a vast array of communications solutions for small, medium, and large organizations. These include managed data and network solutions, cloud computing, conferencing, Web, security solutions and integrated information and communications technology (ICT) services.
Role:
Reporting to the Associate Director – Managed Services Engineering, the selected candidate will be responsible for establishing server systems/data centers solution architectures and directions for both the organization and its customers.
Key responsibilities:
* Develops target architectures (medium/long term) for systems solutions/data centers on behalf of Bell and its customers.
* Participates in the writing of service offers with a view to ensuring a proper evaluation of the solution’s certification, implementation and management efforts that will meet the technical and legal requirements of the customer, Bell and the partnership agreement.
* Ensures consistency between identified target architectures, project planning and service offerings.
* Analyzes overall customer/Bell requirements and recommends concept and technology development and direction plans for server/data center environments.
* Ensures a technology watch in accordance with security standards and policies as well as with Canadian laws on the protection of information.
* Supervises laboratory proof-of-concept testing to ensure that the technology direction plan is viable.
* Supports and advises members of the team regarding the various technology directions.
* Works with the Strategic Planning and Business Development departments to define systems direction plans and the products and services offered by Bell.
* Drafts and presents system target and direction plans as required.
Critical competencies
* Undergraduate degree in engineering with specialization in computer science or electrical engineering
* Ten (10) years of experience in telecommunications or IT, with a minimum five (5) years of server management experience
* Knowledge of operating systems such as Windows (essential), Unix/Linux (nice to have)
* In-depth knowledge of virtual environments, storage and backup solutions
* In-depth knowledge of computer security: standards, concepts, policies, intrusion detection, security perimeters (firewalls, DMZ), authentication, VPN, etc.
* Working knowledge of database infrastructure (Oracle, SQL,…)
* Working knowledge of Cisco IP Telephony solutions
* Advanced internetworking knowledge – LAN, MAN, WAN,… Knowledge of server management tools (virtualization, backups, etc)
* Expert knowledge of IP protocols
* Bilingual (French and English), written and spoken
* “Secret” security clearance – an advantage
