Job summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing overall management, administration and support to Bell Media web serving infrastructures, including systems, application softwares, services, databases and security.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage, maintain and monitor all web servers for production, QA and development environments. Environment mainly consists of Linux (Ubuntu / CentOS) running on VMware platform
  • Setup new servers; configure hardware, services, settings and storage in accordance with operational requirements.
  • Install, configure and optimize all web application such as Apache, Tomcat, Nginx, Squid, Varnish
  • Setup, configure, administer and secure database servers and clusters (MySQL/MongoDB/CouchDB) Perform required performance tuning. Provide SQL optimization support to web development teams
  • Assist web development teams with web applications and databases load testing
  • Manage and maintain security policies relating to systems and applications
  • Ensure that appropriate backup strategies of all systems and databases are properly managed and monitored in order to minimize downtime and to reduce retrieval times to a minimum
  • Work with hardware and software suppliers regarding support contracts and technical issues
  • Monitor application performance, carry out hardware upgrades and resources optimization, when needed
  • Maintain proper documentation on systems and procedures

 

Requirements:

  • 5 to 10 years of experience in a similar position
  • Very solid experience with Linux operating system, mainly CentOS and Ubuntu Server
  • Experience with database creation and administration with MySQL/MongoDB/CouchDB and strong skills in optimization
  • Extensive knowledge of server management tools and monitoring tools (e.g. Puppet/MCollective, icinga/ganglia, LDAP et GLPI)
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Good general knowledge of technologies and web tools (PHP, JavaScript, XML, JSON, CSS, HTML)
  • Extensive knowledge of Apache, Tomcat, Nginx, Squid, Varnish and GlusterFS software applications
  • Good problem-solving skills, open-mindedness, willing to explore new technologies
  • Experience with VMware vCenter / VSphere / ESXi environment and applications
  • Scripting language literacy (e.g. BASH/PERL/PYTHON)
  • Proficient in high traffic web environment (Load Balancing/Caching)
  • Strong Team player
  • Bilingual (French and English)

 

Preferred skills:

  • Experience with audio and video streaming technology
  • Experience with CMS platforms an asset (Drupal, Polopoly)

 

Work conditions:

  • Work schedule: This position also requires sharing on-call duties for technical support in order to ensure site availability 24/7
  • Work location: 1717 René-Lévesque Est, Montréal
