The Bell TV Broadcast Engineering & Operations Team is committed to delivering Canada’s best content and services to our customers through next-generation services for TV (Satellite and Fibe TV), as well as the introduction of new technologies and products across Bell’s coast-to-coast network. We build and deliver stunning picture quality and reliable service for all of Bell’s video services and manage a fleet of Bell’s satellites with 24 hour support. Working as a Senior Manager of Bell TV VOD & Multiplatform Engineering team you will be working in a dynamic fast paced environment, and responsible for crucial elements in delivery of Bell TV service to our customers all over Canada.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure Level 3 support for multi-platform (mobile streaming, Web and Set top Box VOD) equipment and networks
- Ensure technical support to Broadcast Operations, PPV Operations and L2 Support
- Create processes for taking projects from evaluation, testing to execution between Technology, Engineering and Operations teams.
- Manage vendor relations
- Engineering, designing and evaluating new solutions as driven by business needs market and technology trends.
- Provide strategic technology direction for content management systems
- Manage and support various preventative maintenance and upgrade activities within Video on Demand and Multi platform domain which includes Content Management systems, Transcoding facility, Quality checking system, Storage and delivery servers.
Essential Qualifications / Competencies:
- Knowledge of OTT technologies (Content delivery networks, and Origin infrastructure/video streaming)
- Knowledge of UNIX (Linux, CentOS, Redhat) and databases (SQL) ;
- Knowledge of Broadcast Delivrery equipment, digital video compression Mpeg 2 / Mpeg 4, base band audio Analogue/PCM/Dolby, video NTSC/SDI/HD and data
- Knowledge of ASI, IP, Fibre, DS3 and Cable signal flows and standards
- Knowledge of video Content Management systems Transcoders, Quality control, Tape Archives, and Media Asset Management
- Familiarity with VMWare, Openstack or other virtualization technologies
- Knowledge of ITIL Framework
- Understanding of TCP/IP network, security, SAN and FC ;
- Knowledge of OTT Video Distribution including Origin servers, Caching servers, IP and RF distribution
- Knowledge and experience Architecting and designing systems and network infrastructure
- Lead the planning and scoping activities for new project opportunities
- Work collaboratively with a broad range of technical resources in the team and various Business stakeholders in the delivery and execution of projects.
- Introduce new technologies, features and services at Super Video Head End
- Provide regular reporting of project status, accomplishments, forthcoming milestones, and challenges to Management and Executive team members.
- Lead the delivery of multiple projects simultaneously with varying scope, timelines, and importance within the team.
- Establish and build partnerships with other Bell teams and vendors involved in your projects.
- Seek out opportunities for improving the current organizational structure to drive better and effective performance
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years experience in a network Broadcast/Telecom or Data centre role.
- Minimum 5 years experience in Team Manager role.
- Strong leadership skills
- Excellent communication skills (verbally and in writing).
- Project Management training and experience building and tracking Project plans.
- Demonstrated success in coaching large teams towards team deliveries and focused personal growth
- Demonstrated success in leading teams with diversified portfolio of responsibilities.
- Familiarity with Digital Rights Management systems
- Ability to work and thrive in a fast paced, changing environment and managing multiple simultaneous projects.
- Capital management forecasting and profiling
- Working knowledge of project and process management practices
- Quick, Quality Decision Making (particularly in highly stressful situations)
- Ability to work in a matrix or shared services organizational model
- Must be able to prioritize and meet deadlines, as well as looking for ways to constantly improve on day to day activities within the Operations district.
- Strong interpersonal skills. Must be a team player and ability to communicate with technical & non-technical individuals, as well as Management and Executive teams.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, IT or Math
