As a major part of the Broadcast Operations team, this position continuously maintains a high level of VOD asset quality using advanced troubleshooting skills, seamless file management and deployment, expertise of asset encoding and compression and diligence towards providing a television product to all Bell IPTV customers. An IPTV VOD Compressionist and Quality Assurance Operator must be able to determine all causes of VOD asset affecting issues and work towards their immediate resolution using internal and external sources.
Job Duties / Accountabilities:
- Maintaining On Air Quality - analyzing video and audio signals during encoding and deployment phases of VOD
- Informing the IPTV Master Control and WVOC of any issues that impact customers
- Checking the accuracy of the Interactive Program Guide and performing corrections where needed through the “VAM and SMT” tools
- Encoding of VOD assets – maintaining correct audio and video levels and codecs, understanding Dolby configuration for optimized audio and fulfilling required Closed Caption standards
- Asset Management with Microsoft’s SMT tool and creator station – Asset Import, Trick Streams and Asset Deployment
- Knowledge of encoding hardware and software and how they are connected to the IPTV VOD network
- Quality Assurance of VOD assets – maintaining optimized quality of Audio and video levels, Trick Streams, Metadata and Asset Info, Trailer and Movie posters or images
- Analyze and document VOD network performance
- Perform Logger records in accordance to CRTC regulations
- Manage IPTV PPV channel play lists-import schedules, export logs, ensure schedules are consistent with EPG. Manually create and maintain schedules for promotion/information channels and HDTV
- Quality check and encode content for IPTV PPV, barker broadcasts
- Create on-air graphics using DEKO and Inscriber CG programs
- Tape to tape editing, dubbing and format conversion using multiple tape formats (D5, HDCam, D-Beta, Beta SX, DVCpro) for internal clients and external broadcasters and post production houses
Essential Qualifications / Competencies:
- Post Secondary Graduate Diploma – Broadcasting
- Proficiency in Windows based Computer Programs
- 3 - 8 years in a broadcast related field, preferably in a master control environment
- Knowledge of broadcast centre signal flow. Troubleshoot technical issues, ability to coordinate, re-route or patch to minimize downtime and restore service
- Good communication skills and strong technical vocabulary
- Prioritize workload and work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to work well under pressure, learn quickly and adapt to new technology, be able to solve problems quickly and efficiently, be able to meet deadlines
- Technical and Operational knowledge of automation, Encoda/Drake, DTG. Servers, including Profile, Leitch, Seachange, Pinnacle and Sencore HD. Archive management software: Video Tape Recorders and Routers
- Thorough knowledge of High definition, Digital and Analog Broadcast Technology and their formats including waveform/vector scope
- Related knowledge of ATSC codecs MPEG-2, VC-1, H.264 and other DVC systems
- Have the ability to train new operators
