The IP Network Operations Center (INOC) is responsible for 7X24 surveillance and maintenance of Bell Canada’s MPLS Core.  The Core accountability includes Internet, IPVPN, as well as many ISN type services.

The network is primarily built with Cisco and Juniper Network components. 

 

The key accountability for the INOC is to ensure we action alarming and react to all network events before our customers are aware there is an issue.  Ensuring we are responding to alarms, we are able to liaison with other internal groups to ensure they are aware of a service affecting conditions and that we are active in pursuing root cause and providing closure to such events.

 

The INOC is also accountable for network change on the IPCore.  Network change and coordination of this change to ensure success is an integral part of this position.

The INOC is in close contact to the Broadband NOC and the Wireline Video Operations Center.  All teams work closely together under National Network Operations to provide seamless surveillance and maintenance on the Core networks from end to end.

 

Duties and accountabilities:

 

 

As part of his duties, the INOC manager will ensure the overall management of 7X24 staff 7 days per week.

 

On a daily basis, the INOC manager will be called upon to:

 

  • Be on site to manage and support all concerns of unionized workers
  • Execute all administrative tasks supporting 22 CEP technicians
  • Manage service escalations from both internal and external teams
  • Create and distribute monthly reports to internal and external customers
  • Attend weekly and biweekly calls with Vendors to discuss service assurance issues.
  • Participate with the NNOC on Network Investigations to provide root cause analysis and put closure to action items.
  • Attend process improvement or project type conference calls.
  • Coordinate change management on all IP Core network elements.
  • Review and approve upcoming change management activity for all changes on the IP Core.

 

Required competencies and skills:

 

  • CCNA or CCNP certification or equivalent recommended
  • Able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Project management skills: coordinate various project aspects; monitor and ensure   
  • completion of work processes
  • Ability to successfully manage a team to maximize efficiencies and enhance performance.
  • Able to work independently with a minimum of supervision; possess strong organizational skills
  • Able to multitask and manage multiple issues at the same time
  • Knowledge of Microsoft software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

 

 

Educational qualifications:

 

The ideal candidate for this position must have a Degree/Diploma in electronics option “telecom” or equivalent.  Basic knowledge of Bell Canada network, combined with the ability to make decisions quickly and to manage risk would be an asset. Consideration could be given to applicants with an in-depth technical knowledge of Bell's IP network and or any Cisco or Juniper Certifications

 

 

Working conditions:

 

The IP Network Operations Center is a 7X24 environment.  The INOC manager will be required to work Monday to Friday on Days with an expectation of managing staff related issues 7X24 365 days per year.The INOC is located within a leading edge surveillance center located at 76 Adelaide Street West in downtown Toronto.The INOC manager will be required to work very closely with the Broadband and WVOC manager as well as many other internal and external customers.
