Includes corporate and operational finance, internal teams support, the controllers group, internal audit and risk advisory services, taxation, treasury, corporate strategy and mergers and acquisitions.
This is a key senior leadership role within Bell Media’s finance team, providing business and financial support to internal clients and actively contributing to financial management of the BU. In addition to operational finance support, the role supports Bell Media’s relationship with external shareholders (ESPN) in a subsidiary company
The Director role serves as finance partner to key Bell Media teams including:
- TSN (The Sports Network)
- National and Specialty News
- In-house Production
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Finance Support:
- Support client groups in preparation of ongoing forecasts, long-range operating plans and annual budgets, including analysis of risks and opportunities associated with business activities
- Develop strong partnerships with internal clients to ensure open lines of communication; serve as business advisor to clients
- Provide analysis of variances in support of monthly reporting requirements
- Lead analysis of significant content acquisitions and programming strategy for client groups
Third Party Reporting:
- Lead support for reporting to external shareholders, including preparation of financial package for regular board meetings, regular forecast updates, long-range plan and other ad hoc requests
Team Management:
- Manage a team of 13 (reporting through three direct reports) ensuring that roles and responsibilities are aligned with team objectives
- Ensure departmental processes are designed with appropriate balance of efficiency and control
Critical Competencies:
- Minimum 8-10 years working experience in finance, preferably in an operationally focused role
- Accounting Designation required
- Comfortable in complex, fast-paced, matrix environment
- Experienced team leader and coach, proven record of developing team members
- Able to balance competing demands and manage team resources to ensure priorities are dealt with appropriately
- Very strong communicator - able to deal with multiple levels in the organization, including team members and client groups at different locations, and adapt communication style as needed for the audience
- Process minded, understands how to leverage technology and promote knowledge-sharing to drive efficiencies and best practices across the team
