Position: Associate Assignment Editor, CTV News Toronto, CEP79
Location:Agincourt
Salary: Unifor79 News Division, Group 3, $971.49 - $1,455.60 per week
(Commensurate with qualifications and experience)
Hours of Work:40 hours per week. Overtime as required.
Responsibilities:
Working under direction of the Managing Editor, Assignment Editor and the Producers of CTV News Toronto, the Associate Assignment Editor will be responsible for:
• Monitor emergency scanners and other sources of information
• Coordinating news staff assignments for coverage and live hits
• Anticipating coverage needs
• Take initiative to identify news angles and leads on story elements, and work with reporters and producers to advance coverage for each newscast
• Work with assignment editor, reporters, producers and news managers to develop strategic priorities that will lay the foundation for “must watch” TV newscasts
• Book stories and follow up coverage
• Research and confirm information
• Write news stories
• Working in News Library, using archive system as required
• Act as call screener and manage phone system for a live call in segment
• Various editorial and newsroom tasks as required by Producer
• Answering phones, filing news releases
• Ensure accreditation for major news events
• Assist with logistics planning for major news coverage
Qualifications:
• A minimum of 5 years of Newsroom
• Journalism or broadcast degree
• Demonstrated experience reporting or producing news stories would be an asset
• Highly organized
• Excellent spoken and written communication skills
• Excellent spelling and grammar
• Excellent knowledge of current events
• Ability to juggle competing priorities simultaneously on deadline
• Ability to take direction from Producers
• Excellent computer, Internet and multimedia skill
• Familiarity with iNews an asset
