Position Description:

Bell is presently seeking a Customer Sales Engineer to provide presales technical expertise to the sales team and customers during the sales process.

 

The Customer Sales Engineer role is customer focused and provides presales technical expertise to the sales team and customers during the sales process.  The individual in the role acts as the customers’ privileged, and trusted advisor, handling large accounts & multiple market segments involving Wholesale products and services.  The individual in this role also functions as a strategic business partner to drive revenue growth and achieve business plan targets, working with sales teams to develop and recommend products and services to meet customers' requirements while identifying additional sales opportunities with existing customers.  The Customer Sales Engineer functions effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team that includes Sales, Customer Service, and Operations.  They also provide technical input into bid proposals, projects and technical documents within the sales process; maintain up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of the organization's and competitors' products and/or services; utilize experience at conceptual level combined with appropriate technical expertise requiring basic or intermediate certifications; coach and motivate team members to deliver on team mandate. 

 

Job Duties/Accountabilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Act as key player on the Bell Sales team to transform customer telecommunication needs into Bell opportunities
  • Act as the customer’s consultant regarding the growth of Bell’s regional and national network
  • The candidate must be technically competent and have the ability to grasp and learn a broad spectrum of telecommunications technologies
  • Be responsible for technical recommendations/studies for the entire customer network architectures
  • Stay informed of developments regarding the leading technology in the market
  • Act as the prime technical interface for the customer into all functions and points in the Bell Family (Product Mgmt, service development, Bell Corporate)
  • Contribute to and understand the account plan and sales strategy for the customer/market
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Application Design Managers,  Service Directors, and other Engineering groups to ensure customer Sales are designed and delivered according to the sold system proposals
  • Act as customer advocate for growth of Bell network capability and service offerings
  • Establish appropriate relationship with customer’s technical team
  • Prepare PEATS (business case) documentation when needed to outline and secure support and funding for delivery of customer Sales
  • Understand customer business objectives and motivations to translate these into network and service requirements
  • Understand the customer’s technology environment
  • Maintain appropriate network records (database spreadsheets, network drawings, etc.)
  • Ensure that new Sales will not adversely disrupt or impact the customer’s network
  • Gain knowledge and demonstrate skills in areas of new technology that complements clients’ needs

 

Critical Qualifications/Competencies:

  • Minimum of five years experience in management
  • Solid aptitudes for the interpersonal relations, presentations and relationship with the customers
  • Professional experience of one or several of following technologies would be an asset:
    • Architecture IP/MPLS, basic Internet, transit IP and DLS
    • Carrier Ethernet, including MEF
    • DWDM and optical Sales
    • Local area networks, Co-location
  • Excellent skills in negotiations, presentations, analysis, problems resolution, communication and decision-making
  • High tolerance to ambiguity – ability to work in an uncertain environment
  • Knowledge of Bell and Bell Wholesale products and services, including tariffs in regulated environment
  • Knowledge of telephone networks and data technology
  • Knowledge of how the internet works
  • Marked enthusiasm to learn new technologies, ideas and new concepts
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Strong communication & leadership skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Powerpoint, Word, Excel et Visio applications above average
  • Ability to search out technical information when it is not readily available
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of and understand the customer's technical and business environment
  • Have had some education or experience in finance
  • University degree in electrical engineering or computer science, MBA (preferable but not required)
  • College diploma as an electrical/electronics technician or technologist, with interest in the telecommunications field and/or suitable Bell experience (preferable but not required)
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
  • Valid Passport
