The Role:

 

Bell's historical archives are some of the oldest and richest business archives in Canada. This set of documents (visual, printed, audio-visual) and technological legacy represents Bell's history since its founding in 1880 as well as the history of Canadian business and telecommunications. Bell's Historical Department is responsible for conserving, managing and highlighting this heritage and for enriching it with new funds and technological objects. The Archivist responds to numerous search requests every year from various company departments as well as from external requesters. The Archivist also initiates and completes projects to disseminate Bell's history to employees, retirees and the general public.

 

Job Duties/Accountabilities:

 

  • Manage the technological legacy collection: acquisitions, cataloguing, storage, preventive conservation, highlighting.
  • Initiate and carry out dissemination and promotional activities (texts for the intranet, conferences, exhibitions, visits to the archives, etc.).
  • Search the archives to answer employee or general public questions.
  • Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures regarding the various archival functions: acquisition, processing (classification, description), preservation, highlighting, etc. 
  • Design, develop and implement archival tools: classification scheme, retrieval tools, etc.

 

Critical qualifications/competencies:

 

  • Master's degree in library science (archival profile)
  • Museology diploma or equivalent
  • Bilingual (French/English, spoken and written)
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and deal with people at different hierarchical levels
  • Detail oriented
  • Driven

 

Preferred Qualifications/Competencies:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in history
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of the Web and new technologies
