The Bell Media IT Delivery team supports Bell Media’s IT applications, used in all facets of Bell Media’s operation. As a member the IT Delivery group, The Business Application Support (BAS) Team is accountable for multiple mission critical applications, as well as the Reporting & BI Portfolio, which is key to daily decision making.
In addition to strong technical skills in Oracle and MicroStrategy Technologies, our team members have strong applied knowledge and understanding of the media business. It is this mix which allows us to continue to meet our customers’ expectations when it comes to delivery and support.

The BAS Team is growing, and takes great strides in creating process and delivery governance around its deliverables, while maintaining an agile environment to meet our business partners’ expectations and needs.
The Role:
Reporting to Senior Manager of IT Delivery, the Specialist, Business Intelligence is responsible assisting in platform/business strategy, design, modeling, development, and support of our database management systems, as well as reporting, dash boarding and BI integration to other applications.
As a senior member of the team, this individual will communicate with senior business partners, as well as senior leadership within the company.
A small percentage of time may be spent supporting in-house built applications when required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Database/data model design and development
- Develops overall data architecture, design principles, quality controls, and data standards for the BI and reporting platform that supports the information needs of the business in a flexible but secure environment
- Conceptualizes and influences application and interface projects, initiates, evaluates, and influences projects from the perspective of the entire platform
- Sets standards for data management, analyzes current state and conceives desired future state, conceiving projects needed to close the gap between current state and future goals
- Develops and maintains data models and data dictionaries, data maps and other artifacts across the BI and reporting platform, including the conceptual and physical models, as well as metadata repository
- Documents business requirements in the form of specifications (functional and technical specifications), validates accuracy and obtains necessary input and approval
- Database maintenances and management
- Monitors database system overall performance to ensure constant performance that data flows (ETL) and stores are controlled and correct, and that the representation of data is accurate and complete to fulfill needs of all in–house projects for quality and timely delivery
- Defines and implements standard data quality maintenance processes
- Develops and implements database/report access control policy as well as standard access auditing process to ensure a high degree of data security in the handling of data, including complying with security policies for data encryption and file transfer
- Oversees/coordinates data repository related tasks as a result of system updates
- Report design and development
- Builds reporting solutions from start to finish, including database design, relational integrity constraints, OLAP, OLTP, Cubes and normalization as required to support requests
- Applies critical thinking skills by interacting directly with the requesting party to develop appropriate report requirements and parameters, suggesting appropriate content fields and design where appropriate, and implementing the report criteria and analysis of said report criteria to accurately produce the requested report/recommendations
- Ensures reports are optimized for efficiency and negative performance on production environment is mitigated
- Maintains a solid working knowledge of business intelligence/decision support industry trends and best practices
- Supports and follows information governance and data standardization procedures established by the organization. Documents reports library as well as external data imports and exports
- Identifies and facilitates the implementation of data reporting improvement opportunities
- Participates in interface projects with internal IT and external vendors; resolves interface errors as it relates to data abstraction
- Provide training and mentoring to ensure processes for best practices in data extraction and query techniques, to ensure maximum efficiency
- General support
- Production job status monitoring on a rational basis (not shift/overnight work)
- Ticket support in test and production environments
Experience and Educational Requirements:
- You have an undergraduate degree in a discipline such as: Business Analytics, Applied Math, Computer Science, Applied/Management Science or engineering
- Over 5 years of experience as a senior business intelligence resource within an enterprise environment
- Demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written communication at the senior management (Director, VP, Executive) level, as well as with non-management staff and business partners
- Able to tailor communication for audience (e.g. senior management vs developers vs business partners)
- Expertise in MicroStrategy, SQL, SAS, and data visualization tools
- Expertise in Oracle Database technologies
- Attention to detail; as an innate personal trait
