POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Broadcast Network Technician responsibilities include, but are not limited to, attending the ongoing technical support for distribution and network infrastructure by addressing deficiencies and ensuring expected operational status of systems.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
- Help support nationwide video over IP distribution network
- Network capacity planning and IP management
- Install various network cabling including UTP, coax, copper, fibre, etc.
- Produce and update documentation in various formats including: Excel, Word, Visio, AutoCAD etc.
- Produce accurate and detailed reports
- Administer network switches and firewalls
- Responsible for keeping networked computers updated and free of viruses and other malware
- Deploy and administer FTP and web streaming services
- Implement and support Windows, Linux and Mac based workstations and servers
- Administer and support SAN/NAS devices
- Ensures the work environment is safe, tidy, organized & clean at all times
- Ensures proper stock of hardware inventory
- Other duties as assigned
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Daily resolutions to all feed and transmission related issues
- Learn and promote proactive solutions and IT practices as established by Dome Productions
- Perform ongoing health and monitoring of all IT equipment
- Prepare incident reports ensuring accuracy and timeliness of the documentation
- Responsible for keeping immediate work area clean and organized
- Works to develop and share knowledge of the IP network and facilities
- Participates in the collection and reporting of technical data such as documentation changes, service-related information and inventory status of all Dome facilities
- Observes and practices the workplace safety procedures established for the job
- Evenings, weekends and holidays as required
- Remote support and after hours as required
- Ability to travel within Canada and USA
Qualifications
- Ability to work under general supervision with willingness and ability to expand knowledge in an ever advancing industry
- Reliable – follows through on instructions/directions. Knows when to elevate issues
- Excellent communication, planning and organizational skills
- A detailed oriented team member with strong customer service and the ability to participate in high functioning teams
- Ability to work under pressure and multi-task
- Working experience of Microsoft Office and SharePoint
- Proven knowledge of networking concepts including Local/Wide Area Network (LAN/WAN) infrastructure and TCP/IP, DNS, SNMP,NTP and DHCP, VPN, WLAN and copper and fibre standards
- Strong written and oral communication skills
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Past work experience not required, willing to accept entry level candidates
- Previous IT, television or broadcast industry experience would be an asset
- Working knowledge and experience with network management and capacity planning tools (i.e. Sniffer, Wireshark).
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Technical Diploma in Information Technology
- CCNA
- Other IT certifications would be an asset
