Job Title: Data Technology Specialist
Name and description of the hiring department:
The Data Technology Specialist is primarily accountable for the test, activation and migration of all data on-net, hybrid and off-net circuit orders to ensure critical dates are met. Remote testing is used to sectionalize and pinpoint the trouble spots to reduce the number of times a truck has to be rolled as well as provide faster activation of service. The incumbent will also participate in New Product Introductions and provide documentation as well as training to other team members in the correct testing procedures and completion processes. This position will evolve as Bell in the West releases more products and services, and new test equipment becomes available for such services.
Job Duties / Accountabilities:
- Customer service orientation, teamwork and collaboration, adaptability and initiative.
- Understanding of Telco LEC and CLEC organization relationships.
- Testing of On-net and Off-net supplier circuits and document results.
- Highlight risks and recommendations associated with complex network changes and present to the management team.
- Work on improving and/or updating the level of documentation of the platforms and/or services inventory and cross platform/network/service dependencies.
- Support and liaise with Field Service Specialists, Network Operations Specialists, CLEC representatives and coordinators, Business Offices, Engineering, Dispatch, etc. in order to provide superior service to the end customer.
- Able to work based on a shift rotation with occasional evenings and weekend shift changes and emergency callouts.
- Be aware and adhere to all applicable health and safety regulations, in accordance with legislation and related company policy.
Essential Qualifications / Competencies:
- The successful applicant must possess a completed two year diploma in Telecommunications, Electronics, Networking, Engineering or equivalent plus a minimum of three years network testing, and troubleshooting.
- A desire to provide a high level of service to customers.
- Demonstrates advanced relationship management, coaching and communication skills.
- Ability to be effective as part of a team, and working individually.
- An in-depth knowledge of IP, MPLS, Quality of Service and protocols such as BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, RIP, IPSec, LDP, IPSec, L2TP, VPN, GRE, etc.
Preferred Qualifications / Competencies:
- SONET and Ethernet services: DSL, DS1, DS3, OC3, OC12, OC48, OC192, 10/100M Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet Experience with activations, installation, or design of SONET and Ethernet services Basic computer skills.
- Knowledge of the following transport equipment: Fujitsu 4100, Ciena OM3500, OM6500, 5200, Titan 5500 DACS, Alcatel DDM2000, 7750, 5620SAM, Cisco ONS, Etherreach 2118, Canoga Perkins 9145EMP/ELB, L351, L357.
- Knowledge with Cisco IOS and Juniper JUNOS and the family of networking, switching, and security platforms.
- Central office environment (Bays, Cabinets, Rack layouts).
