Position Description:

Reporting into the Level 2 service support team, this candidate will provide leadership to the ongoing level 2 support of several systems including VOD, N-Screen (mobile streaming), simultaneous substitutions, file based content, transcoding, networking, ad insertion, automation/playback, media storage, channel launches and quality control. The person performing this job has the responsibility for managing the support of the layer 3, team in architecture and engineering evaluations, design, development and implementation.

Job duties/ accountabilities:

* Maintain integrity of all multiplatform on-air VOD, File based content, automation/playback, N-Screen equipment and networks
* Support development of VOD/File based content and other product development in collaboration with Technology, Engineering and Operations teams
* Participate in the design and deployment of large projects, change management, capacity planning, channel launches, working with Project managers and multiple stakeholders in the delivery of complex solutions
* Establish, build and manage partnerships with other Bell teams and vendors involved in VOD, simultaneous substitutions, ad insertion, automation/playback, media storage and N-Screen streaming projects
* Providing support and supervision to Level 2 service support technicians performing maintenance and adjustments to the system as required
* Define and document operational procedures, develop and maintain technical documentation
* Configuration of systems following the standards and the industry’s best practices
* Build and revise the systems documentation
* Lead technical expert and advisor for internal and external customers, vendors and colleagues
* Leading projects and coordinating staff to support cross-departmental projects
* Minimize loss of services by quickly identifying and implementing corrective measures
* Provide input to architecture and support of mission critical Unix (Linux), Windows server based infrastructure in TV broadcast environment, Disaster recovery, test, lab and development environments across networks
* Research equipment and provide technical specifications to engineering group
* Support implementation of SAN storage systems
* Support System administration tasks, software and hardware deployments, system configuration, backups, system monitoring, performance tuning and troubleshooting
* Involved in installation and testing of Operating system patches and updates
* Determine failing component and take corrective measures to minimize impacts to production environments
* Knowledge sharing and training between other L2 technicians on system components as required
* Other duties as assigned by the manager of Network operations

Critical qualifications:

* Demonstrated strong team, project and technical leadership experience on multiple projects and for resolving on-air issues expediently including troubleshooting and determining root cause
* Must have 10 years of experience in the broadcast video environment
* Must have 5 years minimum in a management or supervisory role with demonstrated ability to lead and motivate experienced technical professionals
* Knowledge of a broadcast environment compression technology (IP, HD-SDI, ASI, MPEG-2/4)
* Thorough knowledge and hands on experience with streaming technologies (Content delivery networks, and Origin streaming servers) and Video on Demand technologies
* Recent experience in building and supporting VOD or IPTV systems
* Hands on experience in setting up and configuring encoder/transcoders, building video profiles for live and VOD
* Computer science, electrical engineering college diploma or equivalent
* Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy
* Service minded attitude
* Must be a motivated self-learner

Preferred qualifications:

* Ability to write technical documents such as method of procedures
* Experience with multi-tier large scale storage environments (SAN, NAS, Base tape)

* Strong knowledge of Internet (DNS, routing, networking, load balancers, firewalls, TCP-IP, UDP, multi-cast) network troubleshooting and provisioning
* Demonstrated knowledge of UNIX System administration in a production environment (Linux)

* Demonstrated knowledge of RGB products system administration in a production environment
* Ability to work in a matrix or shared services organizational model
* Ability to work effectively in a high volume environment that is subject to frequent change
* Provides operational support and quick resolutions for the organization's VOD and content management systems
* Experience with video automated Quality control technologies would be an asset
* Demonstrated ability to perform in-depth troubleshooting and problem solving of MPEG transport streams and IP
* Knowledge of various test instruments and transport stream analyzers
