Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. Will include working evenings and weekends. Overtime as required.

Responsibilities:

* Identify, research, and write news stories and headlines for the station’s website and social media properties in keeping with the station’s standards and style
* Stay on top of breaking news, ensuring fresh and relevant content on the site
* Ensuring accuracy on the site and the respect of copyright
* As an integrated member of the news team, participate in assignment & line-up decisions and writing of stories for the newscast
* Produce weekend and other newscasts for CTV News Barrie
* Work with reporters to ensure appropriate coverage of news and live events.
* Contribute to the daily planning of news coverage.
* Act as a liaison with local stations and DNS
* Writing and editing scripts, supervising edits, critiquing news material; booking feeds, taking feeds.
* Liase with news, promotions, IT & sales to create and maintain vibrant web presence
* Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

* Three years’ experience in television or online news production with a relevant University degree or comparable college diploma.
* In-depth knowledge of domestic and international news and current affairs
* Demonstrated news and editorial judgment, strong copy editing skills, clear and concise writing ability and an excellent command of the English language.
* Excellent organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines and prioritize.
* Excellent communications, grammar and spelling skills are essential.
* Ability to work in and lead a team, motivate staff and personally set the highest professional journalism standards.
* Experience in digital content design, development and production.
* Knowledge of publishing to, and troubleshooting on, digital platforms.
* Graphics design experience an asset.
* Knowledge of the Barrie area.
